The house has fine Jacobean features, beautiful oak carvings and many family artefacts. The family is connected to significant scientific developments by one of the earliest marine biologists, John Stackhouse (born 1773) and Thomas Knight (born 1750), a renowned botanist who was co-founder of the RHS and is mentioned in the first chapter of Darwin’s “The Origin of Species”.
The tour will start at the front of the house where there is car parking. You will be escorted at all times so that we can try to answer any questions. After the tour of the house, your guide will take you on a short, pretty woodland walk (approx. 1 mile) which includes notable trees and a secret garden. There are stunning views of the Wenlock Edge and the Shropshire Hills. You then return to the main garden of Acton Scott Hall past an ancient mulberry tree, new arboretum and shrubbery. Your tour will end with refreshments served in the garden or conservatory depending on the weather.

- Parts of the woodland walk are uneven and difficult to access by wheelchair or pram.
- An alternative, shorter route can be arranged by prior agreement.
- Whilst dogs are not permitted inside the house, you are more than welcome to walk your dog in the surrounding grounds following your tour.
