Spring Bulbs House Tour
Treat your loved ones to a guided tour of the house and grounds led by members of the Acton family. The house tour includes part of the basement, with servants' bells on display, and an exhibition room laid out according to the theme of each tour; the conservatory, drawing room, library and justice room on the ground floor, plus the hallway with Jacobean carving on the stairs. Some tours will include the Oak Room bedroom on the first floor, with fine carvings in the 17th-century wall panels and the bed. The walk around the grounds takes in the lawns and woodland paths to the secret Rock Garden.
The Acton family continue to care for the house, gardens and woodland. The basic layout of the gardens and much of the planting from 1807 is still represented in the lawns, ancient trees, archery ground, former flower garden, walled garden and secret garden, (known as the Rock or Quarry Garden). The house is adjacent to the Acton Scott Historic Working Farm which was the brainchild of Mr Thomas Stackhouse Acton (d 2020). Mrs Lucy Acton (d 2019) left a comprehensive account of the history of Acton Scott Hall, the Estate and family members in the form of unpublished books. They offer a wonderful insight into the past of this tranquil and timeless gem.
Tickets price includes a cream tea.
